Starting at the University of Alberta I was lucky to work under several influential cabinetmakers as I apprentice to be a cabinetmaking Instructor. In the beginning it was learning the craft from a German cabinetmaker who pushed us to be exact in our approach and gave us the fundamentals of woodworking. Later in my career, I was fortunate enough to work with an Indigenous cabinetmaker who taught a wholistic approach to woodworking and taught me about respecting the earth when we took resources from it. Learning to make traditional native ceremonial objects broadened my knowledge of cultural and traditional woodworking and craft. Later in my career I would continue my education in British Columbia where I took advanced joinery and chair building classes at a school called Inside Passage. It was there that I completed my certification in cabinetmaking.
